Instrumentation and Awareness (CIA) research group. He has worked in healthcare
industry for a large-scale software distributor as an application designed and
developer. His research interests include quantified-self, ubiquitous
computing, sensing technologies, mobile computing, with emphasis on end-user
benefits of applications and technologies.
Denzil Ferreira
(University of Oulu, Finland) is an Academy of Finland
Postdoc Fellow and is an Adjunct Professor in Mobile Computing. His research
focus is on utilising mobile instrumentation (e.g., wearables, smartphones,
ambient displays, deployable sensors) to better understand human behavior and
social wellbeing. Ferreira leads the Community Instrumentation and Awareness
(CIA) research group, and acts as the Vice-Director of the Center for
Ubiquitous Computing at the University of Oulu.
Niels van Berkel (The University of
Melbourne, Australia) is a PhD student at the University of Melbourne,
where he is a member of the Interaction Design Lab. In his PhD research, he
focuses on active human sensing through ubiquitous devices, most prominently
smartphones. A large portion of his work focuses on the accuracy of active data
collection (e.g., using techniques
such as the Experience Sampling Method). His research interests include
ubiquitous computing, HCI, crowdsourcing, and social computing.
Vassilis Kostakos (The
University of Melbourne, Australia) is a Professor
at The University of Melbourne School of Computing and Information Systems. He
has previously worked as a Professor and Director of the Center of Ubiquitous
Computing at University of Oulu, as Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Carnegie
Mellon University, and as Assistant Professor at University of Madeira. He is
also part of the Academy of Finland Distinguished Professor Programme. He
received his PhD and BSc in Computer Science from University of Bath. His
research interests include mobile computing, ubiquitous and pervasive
computing, social network analysis, human computer interaction, and security
and usability.
Yuuki Nishiyama (Keio University, Japan) is a PhD candidate in Media and Governance, and a research assistant of
Global Environmental System Leaders (GESL) program at Keio
University. He is a member of Tokuda lab, SFC, Keio University. He holds a
BArts in Environmental Information (2012), a Master of Media and Governance
(2014). His research interests are in distributed, mobile and ubiquitous computing,
human behavior change, life-logging, context-awareness, health care, wearables
and IoT.
Kennedy Opoku Asare (University of Oulu, Finland) is a Research Assistant at the Center for Ubiquitous Computing, University of Oulu, Finland. He is a June 2018 candidate for MSc Computer Science from the University of Oulu. He holds a BSc in Computer Science from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana. He is part of the Community Instrumentation and Awareness (CIA) research group. Before joining the academia, he worked as a full-stack software developer of financial solutions, and as a UNICEF Consultant in Ghana. His research focuses on ubiquitous computing, sensing technologies, and mobile computing.
